Mauritius Equity Markets | 02 Oct 2015 : Equity Trading Ends in Mixed Sentiment, Indices Higher, Market Cap Higher
PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets trading closed the week in the mixed sentiment. The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 213.290 billion by going down MUR 51 million (about US$1.5 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 213.239 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) moved up by 0.02 percent or 0.46 points to close at 1,915.20 and SEM10 index added 0.08 percent or 0.30 points to end at 366.63 points. From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 5,076,948 (a rise relative to volume of 683,723 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 61.899 million (an increase relative to MUR 49.463 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 4,376,400 (about 86.20 percent of total volume) at MUR 3.719 million and New Mauritius Hotels registered 218,748 traded stocks amounted to MUR 3.937 million. MCB Group had 201,700 at MUR 42.150 million and CIM Financials recorded a total volume of 108,100 shares at MUR 890,744. TERRA Mauricia Limited also recorded 34,838 shares at MUR 1.028 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 27 traded securities there were 4 price gainers and 5 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended negative. CIEL Limited soared by 1.19 percent to end at MUR 6.78, ALTEO Limited surged by 1.17 percent to close at MUR 34.50, LOTTOTECH Limited gained 0.81 percent to settle at MUR 3.75 and United Docks Limited rose by 0.69 percent to trade at MUR 72.50.
On the laggards’ chart, GAMMA Civic closed at MUR 26.45 after sagging by 1.31 percent and Mauritius Development Investment Trust slipped by 1.18 percent to settle at MUR 5.02. Also, CIM Financial Services sagged by 0.24 percent to settle at MUR 8.24, MCB Group plunged by 0.24 percent to end at MUR 208.50 and Rogers & Co Limited ended at MUR 28.95 after losing 0.17 percent.
The DEMEX index ended at 205.77 points after adding 0.33 points or 0.16 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 50.595 billion and the total value traded was MUR 18.704 million exchanged in 669,727 traded securities. SODIA surged by 17.95 percent to trade at MUR 0.46, ENL Limited (Preference) grew by 2.61 percent to settle at MUR 27.50 and CIEL Textile surged by 1.41 percent to end MUR 39.65. Also, Livestock gained 1.21 percent to settle at MUR 25.00.
